Have you been wondering lately if it’s about time to replace your garage door? Sometimes, repairs can allow your door to run smoothly for many years to come. Other times, parts are just too worn down or damaged to keep going for much longer. In this case, replacing your door is likely a much better way to invest your money.
Slow Movement or Reaction Time
Does your garage door open or close more slowly than it used to? Is there a delay between the time you push the button to operate the door and its response time? If so, there’s a problem. The solution may be as simple as replacing batteries or lubricating moving parts. On the other hand, it could be a very serious issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. If the springs lose their tension or pulleys wear out, your door could become a ticking time bomb. If a piece snaps while the door is up or moving, it could crash down on anyone or anything in its path. Call a garage door technician to diagnose your slow-moving garage door as soon as possible.
Excessive Noise or Vibration
If your door is loud or shakes and rattles as it’s opening and closing, something serious could be wrong. Check to see if the rollers are old and rusted; if so, they need to be replaced. If a roller has popped out of its track, don’t operate your door, or you could cause extensive damage. A spring, cable, or door hinge may be broken, or something (such as a rock) could be lodged in the track. There are many possible causes of a noisy, shaky garage door.
Outdated
If your door is old, it likely isn’t running as smoothly as it used to. Parts eventually wear out. A new operator and/or garage door could do wonders for you and your home. Old garage doors aren’t only outdated and ugly—they can also be unsafe.
Damaged
If your door is obviously broken, showing dented sections, loose or missing panels, or a bottom that sits unevenly on the ground, it probably needs to be replaced. Leaving a door in this shape gives rodents and burglars the opportunity to walk or crawl right in! It can also make your energy bills higher if your garage is connected to your home. Sometimes, it’s possible to replace one panel of the door—if it’s still being manufactured and other sections of your door aren’t damaged.
Replacing your garage door can give you a great return on investment. Getting rid of your shabby old door that’s currently an eyesore and replacing it with a beautiful, fully functional new door will greatly increase your home’s curb appeal as well.
Malfunctioning
If you know your garage door is acting funny, but you can’t figure out what the problem is, call a garage door technician to perform a tune-up and inspection.
