Reprogramming your Genie garage door remote doesn’t have to be difficult! With a few simple steps, you’ll have your system programmed for maximum convenience and usability. Try it for yourself!

What You’ll Need

Before you begin reprogramming your Genie garage door remote, you’ll first need to gather a few necessary items.

Owner’s Manual

It’s helpful to have your Genie owner’s manual handy while programming your garage door remote because reprogramming directions will vary slightly by unit. If you don’t have a print version of your owner’s manual, all Genie owners’ manuals are available online.

Garage Door Opener

To reprogram your garage door remote, you’ll need to access your garage door motor. It may be helpful to use a ladder while using your unit, so have one available if necessary.

When reprogramming your garage door remote, you’ll obviously need the remote itself. You can program multiple remotes at a time, so gather them all and have them ready to go.

What to Do

Reprogramming your remote is as simple as 1, 2, 3. Follow these easy steps to program all of your Genie garage door remotes.

1. Locate

First, locate the “Learn Code” button on your garage door opener. This button is usually found near the antenna but can vary slightly by unit. Once you’ve found the “Learn Code” button, you’ll also want to identify the LED indicator near it. This light will help you determine whether your reprogramming has been successful.

2. Press

Next, press and release the “Learn Code” button on your unit. The LED light should begin blinking to indicate that the system is working. Once the light is activated, press the button on the Genie garage door remote you want to program. The LED light on your unit should either flash or remain lit. Press the same remote button again, and the light should go out. When you press the button a third time, it should operate your garage door. If it doesn’t, carefully repeat this step.

3. Repeat

Complete the above steps for each remote that you want to reprogram. Most units can handle up to seven remote-operated devices.
