Carriage House designs and builds custom, handcrafted doors for homeowners. They’re known for superb craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, quality woods, and beautiful constructions. The company has been in business for over 30 years now and continues to produce some of the best wooden doors in the industry using the finest materials available.
This year, Carriage House released a new line of contemporary garage doors. These doors are perfect for many types of homes, ranging from neoclassical to postmodern. Doors can be custom designed to the customer’s specifications to retrofit any home, making it truly unique. New modern doors are made from glass, wood, metal, and various combinations of the three materials.
Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese wood burning tradition. The wood is burned in order to make it more resistant to rotting, insect infestation, and fire. During this process, the wood is charred, cooled, cleaned, and finished with a natural oil. This technique is commonly used on southern cypress.
Sapele Mahogany is highly sustainable because of its ability to grow quickly. This wood is also very durable and stunningly beautiful.
Reclaimed Redwood is collected from various locations on the West Coast of the U.S., such as old bridges and barns. It has a rustic look with rich tonal characteristics and is very durable.
Vertical Grain Clear Western Red Cedar: This lighter wood has straight, fine graining and is exceptionally strong. It’s also naturally water resistant and accepts many different finishes.
Burmese Teak has a beautiful golden tone and distinctive grain. It’s found in Southeast Asia, is naturally water resistant, and contains resins that prevent it from decaying.
Black Walnut: This rich brown wood is stable, shock resistant, and very strong. Its coloring can range from light pale brown to a dark chocolate tone.
Other wood door options in this collection include vertical grain clear western red cedar, IPE, Fiji mahogany, white mahogany, and koa wood.
Metal door and accent options include stainless steel, copper, anodized aluminum, and mirror polished stainless steel. Glass can also be incorporated into a custom door. Take a look at the Contemporary Collection catalog to see samples of each of these gorgeous materials.
Modern garage doors built by Carriage House are absolutely beautiful and can truly set a house apart, but they certainly aren’t for everyone. Custom doors can cost significantly more, and not all homes can pull off the modern addition. If you’re wondering if a modern garage door would look good on your home, experiment with Carriage House’s “design your door” feature.
Simply upload a photo of the front of your home with a clear, straight view of the garage. You can also play around with the photos in the program, but it’s best if you use a photo of your own so you can get a better idea of what it will really look like. Once your photo is pulled up, define the garage door area, then create a custom garage door and see what it looks like on your home!
